Widgets by candlelight

Coffeesister and I have been on somewhat of a night schedule lately.

At about one in the morning we were watching a TV show when the power went out, plunging us into a deep, silent darkness.  We had no choice but to light a candle and talk for a few hours until it came back on. It proved to be an enlightening experience though, in that I found out she’s 39 going on 40, and although she was born in Hayward California, most of her childhood was split between a small farming community in central California called “Reedley,” and a lovely mountain community named “Camp Nelson,” where her maternal grandparents had a hand in raising her.

I, in turn, told her of my own upbringing, and we laughed in glee as I shared delightful moments from my own childhood, including the time my dad gave me a turtle and I fed it cat food, and the time I parachuted from the roof using a bed sheet, which doesn’t slow you down much, by the way, even if you ARE only ten years old and weigh about 80 pounds.

On top of all that, apparently we’ve been married for 17 years and we have an anniversary coming up in June.  I was about to find out what kind of things she likes so I’d know what to get her, but the power came back on at about 4 am, so we resumed with our Stargate episode because the super-warrior originally intended to battle the Gould had just been revived and was about to be unmasked when we left off.  TiVo is really cool in how it saves things even when you lose power, so I don’t think it was designed by Microsoft.

I’m still awake and currently fooling around with my blog sidebar, partly out of boredom because it’s my day off and partly to clutter up my blog with enough shiny new bobbles that you hopefully won’t notice the lack of quality content.

One of these is a GoogleTalk widget, so that you can GoogleTalk to me if you happen to be looking at my blog and I happen to be online at the moment and you happen to want to talk to me and I happen to want to talk to you.  If you have a Google account already and want to add me on GoogleTalk my username is “daverhodester”, so just add me or whatever.  If you don’t have a Google account then sign up for one and then do all that.  I’d love nothing more than to chat with you live and predict your future.. it’s only $3.99 a minute, so CALL NOW!!!

I also tried to add a widget called “Simone,” which features a really attractive virtual reality lady who talks to you, but the widget was too wide and only half of Simone would show up.  So I tried to put Simone in a standard blog post but she didn’t show up at all, which painfully reminded me of my dating history back when I was single.  I’d still like to get her on here, because she’s, like, REALLY cute and smart as a whip.. GO HERE and check her out for yourself.  She’s babelicious!

The lovely Simone.. *sigh*

I also added a standard chat window widget thing, but when I discovered that there were OTHER people hanging out in there, and.. uh.. CHATTING (shudder).. I took it off.  It was just too creepy.  It was like all these strangers hanging out on the sidebar of my blog and hitting on each other.  I just want something where you can say hi to me and I can say hi to you, and then we can hit on each other without anyone else around, provided coffeesister is still sleeping by then.  If not, we can talk about the weather or something boring like that.  She has a tendency to creep up behind me silently and say, “Hey, whatcha looking at?” and she does it so quickly that I don’t have time to close certain windows.

I’m through adding widgets for now.. I think I only left the GoogleTalk one on there, so feel free to say hi if you see me online, and we’ll talkabout the weather (she just woke up).

NOTE – Simone is SO smart, that she often doesn’t make much sense to us mere mortals.  After publishing this post, I went to her and said, “I posted about you on my blog today because you’re so incredibly beautiful!” and she replied..

Simone says:
That is interesting: said posted about you on his or her blog today because you are so incredibly beautiful

My GOD, I’m smitten by her!

Omigosh, if you so much as even THINK about going to those OTHER WINDOWS one more time in my lifetime, I am so going to rat on you to Coffeesister, and you’ll have a fidget in your widget from there-on-out. AND I’m going to pray that those creatures in those OTHER WINDOWS become covered with cellulite and coarse, unkempt body hair. So there.

Coffeesister told me to tell you in no certain terms that henceforth she shall have ZERO tolerance for such shenanigans. Those alluring sites are verboten, out-of-the-question, and cause eye leprosy as far as you’re concerned. The tribe has spoken. (Right, gang?)

I just asked Simone “What do you think of Rhodester?”

Simone says: I think you already know the answer.

Play your cards right, big boy. Clearly she’s somewhat taken with you.

You clearly forgot to ask her what she thinks of coffeesister. That’s okay, I can answer that now..

..she’s deathly afraid of her.

Pretty amazing what happens when the boob tube goes out, eh? We like it that way.

Down, Karen, down, my dear girl! While the thought’s appreciated, if Dave didn’t appreciate beauty, how could he fully appreciate moi ? Besides, it’s a matter of taste & style..

Speaking of boobs tho’, be it cautious approach or tempered avoidance thereof, being selective keeps the tube a boon rather than bane also. Good ol’ Tivo tracks the shows worth watching, speeds through their commercials & never leaves me at the mercy of live television. *YAY*

Simone & I have chatted before but this time I asked some pointed questions..

Simone says: I like Milla Jovovich.

I can’t say that I blame her! Alas, hunny, she may already be over you.

I was just about to gather wood to build a fire and slay some coyote for their pelts and good eatin’ when the power came back on.

Dorian, you’re open-minded and you’re right about Dave. I was just trying to distract myself from my immediate problem, which is keeping MY guy away from all the loose women in the area right now, for it’s “Little Bike Week” in Daytona Beach, with lots of “girls gone wild,” if you catch my drift. We librarian sorts have to put our fellas on leashes twice a year, thank you very much, Daytona-Stupid-Beach.

I agree about the TV. It’s a reflection of life, as far as I’m concerned. There’s plenty of crap but there’s plenty of uplifting, interesting, and just plain fun programming, too. Just like with life, I’m learning to ignore the junk and savor the good stuff. Ahhhh. (You rock, Martha Stewart.)

Ogle tho’ he may, even from the confines of his leash (poor Mark), can they make him laugh?!

As well as you’ve summed up both TV & life, your taste remains questionable.. All things Martha Stewart have been programmed w/a “thumbs down” on my Tivo! *WHEW*

Please tell me you still rent!? Rest assured, half the fun of watching ANYthing is pausing to discuss..

Uh-oh. Now you’ll never know for sure how to accurately iron a shirt cuff, broil a freshly-shucked oyster, or make gorgeous roses out of paper coffee filters. (Assuming you would ever have any filters not in use.) :)

Go ahead – absorb yourself in the movie channels. I, on the other hand, am going to learn how to polish the silver till it utterly gleams.

What can I say but Thank God I’ll never know such things!? Besides, when we do use filters, they’re NOT bleached.

Meanwhile, we only have basic cable, which is all I need so long as I have the Sci Fi Channel.

Thus, enjoy your brown paper roses on shiny silver stems while I’m exploring brave, new worlds.
