She was in one of the biggest hits of the century, right up there with Ben-Hur, Gone With The Wind and Casablanca. She even won an Oscar for her portrayal as Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz, and that was just the beginning. She enjoyed a great deal of fame and celebrity during her short life – she was married several times and gave birth to two daughters who went on to enjoy their own celebrated careers.
She was the star of many MGM musicals, including the fabulous Meet Me in St. Louis and even more fabulous Easter Parade. She danced with Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and was Mickey Rooney’s very own BFF in a relationship spanning decades. The highlight of her career came in 1954, when she gave her greatest performance in A Star is Born.
So when told that newcomer Anne Hathaway would be playing her in not only a stage show of her life but a film as well, Judy Garland was understandably incensed.
“Who the hell is this Anne Hathaway person?” Garland demanded to know. “I’ve never even heard of her! Why can’t Liza play me? She sounds more like me than anyone else, and she can act!”
Garland seemed unaware of how much time had passed and that her daughter Liza Minnelli is now 63 years of age – far too old to portray a young version of her. She continued to berate Hathaway.
“This little tramp wasn’t even born yet when I kicked it. I’ve been up here longer than she’s been down there! What does she know about MGM and packing out concert halls and popping barbiturates like they’re candy? NOTHING, that’s what!”
An attempt at consolation on the part of former husband Vincent Minnelli was met with the usual icy stare.
“Get someone else.. get one of those marvelous drag queens to play me.. those little darlings were spot on.”
Actress Anne Hathaway declined comment, being too busy practicing her Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and Audrey Hepburn impressions in the bathroom mirror.

” TOTO ,WE’RE NOT IN KANSAS.”
WHAT?!?!? Anne Hathaway=Judy Garland?? They have GOT to be kidding! Right? Unbelievable!
The Exact Quote is:
” TOTO I’VE A FEELING WE’RE NOT IN KANSAS ANY MORE. “
I’m glad you corrected that or I would have had to send Munchkins. They can be rather nasty.
LOVE AH and I think she can pull it off. She has a lovely voice.
Perhaps, but she is a.. uh.. okay see my reply to “Krispy” below..
Anne Hathaway is really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really attractive. But she just doesn’t strike me as much of an actor. And I’ve been told that she can act like a bitch when she walks into a diner with Topher Grace.

Dude.. I SO KNEW you were going to bring that up! HONEST! I knew it when I posted this. “Oh, Krispy is going to remember me talking about how I had the misfortune to actually MEET the adorable Miss Hathaway a few years ago and what a stark-raving bitch she is.”
I JUST KNEW YOU’D bring it up!
But unlike you, I’m willing to let it go.
The fact that she’s a rude, arrogant ass-wipe.
I’ve let it go completely.
Ann WHO?
See?
Believe it or not, I couldn’t remember for sure if that anecdote was something you’d told me or something I’d read somewhere. So I was intentionally vague. But now that I’m sure, I promise you that I’ll NEVER let it go. Every time I see her I’ll think “You were rude to my friend Dave, you really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really attractive bitch.”

You’re my.. friend? *sniff*
I’ve never said this part, but she was wearing a skirt and she had a bruise on her leg.
A BRUISE.
No airbrushing that bitch.. she was bruise-laden.
It was very unattractive.
I had to stare at her legs for like, minutes.. I just couldn’t believe it.
A BRUISE.
I wondered if Topher had put it there.
Bastard.
or.. “Dumb-ass!”
HAHA!

By the way, this fun little post was NOT an attempt to find a way to slam Miss Hathaway through a made-up story. So don’t go thinking it was.
Because it wasn’t.
Seriously.
