SORRY, but..

..this blog is going to change soon.  The content won't change - that much - but the design will.

Oh, I know how adverse we all are to these types of things, and I know you've just gotten used to the vintage illustrations and the little man with the coffee cup (Ward Cleaver), but the truth is I can't use them anymore for legal reasons.  That's right, I stuck my hand in the cookie jar and someone slammed the lid shut on my little fingers.

I COULD just throw together another design, but to make it legal and binding takes a bit of time, so it won't be immediate, but it will be soon.  The template layout is changing too, for the better, and one reason for that is because we're going with a different host and the current template is exclusive to the current host, whom we don't like anymore.  We've never had any downtime from them but they've been glitchy in other ways, and there's a few things we'd like to do that they don't make possible.

Lest any of you think this is because of the recent drive-by shooting, allow me to assuage your concerns by stating that we (when I say WE, I mean coffeesister and I) have been planning on a change for some time now, and since a look at our current layout had been scheduled by the esteemed Men With Pens, we just decided to wait it out to get some constructive feedback before proceeding.  Well, we've gotten it, so proceed we shall.

I won't say anymore about it, because if there's one thing I detest from bloggers it's how they sometimes go on and on about changes they PLAN to make.. just like I'm doing now.  It's like, "HEY!  Just go ahead and MAKE THEM ALREADY!"  But I wanted to give some of you long time readers the reason for changing and assure you that it's entirely necessary, AND for the better.

A word about ENTRECARD

I've already dropped it.  NOT because Men With Pens said I should, but because I wasn't crazy about it myself.  It's a nice idea, and although I did add a few new blogs to my reader as a result of using it, I just didn't want to visit every user who dropped a card on mine.  I mean, why do I want to read about a new species of fruit everyday and see pictures of it dissected?  I don't.  But I would feel bad if someone dropped a card on me and I didn't reciprocate.. every single DAY.. so I won't be dropping any more cards, and they won't drop on me because there's no widget to drop on, so now I can ignore them in good conscience.  I barely have time for the blogs I've been faithful to for a few years, which I'm sure has been noticed by their respective authors.

That BLOGRUSH widget is going bye bye too.. not enough traffic from it.  It's time to simplify.

Okay, that's enough about format and layout - all that stuff you don't care about.  I'll get back to the stuff you DO care about - silly, mind numbingly frivolous stories and anecdotes - at the next post.  When the changes come, they'll just show up one day and you can say, "Aw, so THIS is what he was talking about!  AWESOME!"

But until then..

BLAH BLAH BLAH

Groovy. Change is good. Or, so they say.

You mean you have to return those Entrecard drops? oops.

Nobody said you HAVE to return the entrecard drops, but I always felt like a ninny if I didn't.. and I don't like ninnys.

I'll miss your cheesy coffee-drinker, but can't wait to see how you evolve. Modern, post-modern, eco-warrior, nihilist? Butcher, baker, Indian chief?

It all sounds good to me - go for it! I'm still doing OK with GoDaddy and will stick with it, mainly because I've forgotten everything I did to set it up and am not eager for another such adventure.

Here's my (humble) take on blogging (or life in general, for that matter): Keep following your heart, enjoying what you're doing, giving it your best shot, and people will find you and will appreciate you. That's especially true for you, because you have talent, kid, and you're writing from a place of understanding life's irony and communicating it so creatively.

Network and promote your work when it feels enjoyable to do so, but know that the bottom line is that people will find you on their own. Nothing is more potent than word-of-mouth, er, word-of-forwarding when people stumble on to something really good.

It is serendipitous for me, then, that I came across one of your last Entrecard ads today, so that I could discover your blog. Now I can simply add a subscription to my Google reader, and I won't miss your updates.

Whoa, nice to meet you! I always like having new readers, even if they do use words like serendipitous.

Actually, I think Ward Cleaver will be staying.. he's not copyrighted. I'd rather him than me.. who would you listen to if either of us told you to do your homework? HIM, of course.

And here I was getting pissed off about my Entrecard advert being rejected by you...

I don't bother dropping back. Most people are playing a game. It's too time-consuming. The fruit blog sounds interesting, actually...

Oh, Michelle.. no no no no no!! I was going to let the remaining ads run their course, including yours. But I kept getting ad requests that I had to reject with a "not accepting new advertisements" tagged on. I got tired of this, so I just set my account not to accept new ad requests in general.

Well, then I noticed that the ad in front of yours lingered for about 2 days, which was really irritating.. not that person's fault, but Entrecard's for not indicating that the setting would stall ALL of the ads. I was so frustrated that I just closed the whole thing down and removed the widget then and there.

Sorry about that, I never set out to reject yours, I did want it to run through.. send me that 125 X 125 and I'll give you a week or so on my new template once it's up.
